Ocktoberfest review

Thanks Randi for hosting the event. Good food and brews. The warm cider was a plus and we must have the mustard in the tube…

1-31-09 Brew Day at Curts

Curts electric brew rig

Curts electric brew rig Boil Over Boil Over Boil Over Boil Over

Nice warm temps and a very cool brew “machine”. In attendance Curt, of course, “me”/Andy, I really brewed and Chris with his friend whose name my brain has forgotten already.

I brewed in Curt’s brew setup. His rig is set up for all grain but I just used one of the kettles. the water is heated with two heating elements @ 220v. There is a nice water temp display and the heating element temperature set display. Just set it to 212 degrees and we were set. I can’t remember for sure but we went from 66 degree water to boil in about five or ten minuets and it was completely silent being electric. Didn’t sound like a jet engine like the propane burners. Still had to watch for boil overs even in a fifteen gallon kettle. I was distracted and it did boil over which was very amusing. Chris took some nice pictures and while doing so his kettle boiled over. Pay back! I have nice pictures of his boil over. Chris started brew about a half hour after I did and brewed a dunkel weizen I think. When my hour was up Curt fired up his wort chiller and the recirculating pump and we watched the temp. gauge drop to 68. Transferred to my fermentor and added the yeast. I had used my maple sap I had on cold storage for my boil water and so we’ll see. I had to unfortunately leave at five. Chris was just getting ready to chill his when I left. Curt was still going to brew an all grain batch with his brew bud Pat. So Curt had a really long day.

Curt or Chris: if you want to add your story to this. Leave a comment

Thanks again Curt and thanks to your wife for putting up with us.

If Curt has another brew make sure you stop by and see his set up. Here are more pics.
